Flooring

So we still have no idea if we are going to get the house... In the meantime I have decided to stay off the MLS and just think positive. If we didn't get the house it will have given me a break from the selection and maybe I will see something from a new perspective or something new will be available. Any way last night we discovered that Marissa doesn't like peas. Or that peas don't like her. Living with SBS is a challenge in the best of circumstances. When the circumstances are less than ideal, in the likes of peas...well without giving too many details the topic of "What type of solid surface flooring are we putting in the new house" came up. Carpet is NOT an option. I found this..which I am considering my "Inspiration" kitchen. The layout is so similar and counter tops are the same hideous color as in the "Potential New House" So I plan to paint the cabinets, replace hardware and redo the flooring. This floor is cork and is installed in a diamond pattern(I LOVE it) I keep reading about how awesome cork floors are...so why is it that all I can imagine is my kids picking it apart? Its supposed to be water proof so why is it then that I imagine Marissa having a blow out or vomiting and having it soak right in? I think I need to go look at some in person. Another option I am considering is tile, large tiles...a warm terracotta perhaps. I just don't want wood again and I'm not a fan of Laminate....SO are there any other options I'm not considering? Something very wipe-able that can withstand being shit and puked on on a daily bases? Doesn't this post make you want to jump in your car and come right over? Gabrielle don't you have cork? Could you give me your impression based on what Ive said here???

We recently installed cork flooring in the Lakehouse ourselves! What makes it durable is the polyurethane coating on top. You can purchase prefinished with the top coat already done or add extra poly to whatever you install just for extra protection.

PS. It looks beautiful in person!

we do have cork in our kitchen and laundry, toilet, utility hall area sealed with polyurethane. It seems to stand up really well and mops clean easily. It has withstood the odd flooded laundry scenario and although it doesn't get puked on daily it seems to have survived the times it has happened. It is also really warm whereas without underfloor heating tiles can be pretty cold. Good luck with the house hunt

We have wood now- and carpet. I do love our wood. we also have tile, but only in the bathrooms. the point.... oi, it's late.. we used to live in a house with tile- big tile in the kitchen and eating area. The grout got gross, tile chips and cracks. I would not do it again in a major 'living room'.
