Dental woes
Dental insurance SUX. Well atleast ours does. Im terrified as to how much Olivias dental surgery is going to cost. On the 5th I took her to a dentist who I quickly discovered I would NOT be able to work with, so I walked out(she insisted Olivia had 'bottle mouth' despite the fact that this child has never had a bottle and I have a previous DX from another dentist of another condition I wont even attempt to spell right now). The damn office billed for 2xrays and a cleaning and they didn't even *touch* Olivia. So I disputed it, they removed the cleaning and Xrays but rebilled it as a 'check-up' so now the insurance wont pay for her to see the new dentist Ive found. Fine. She has to go, so Ill just pay cash for the appointment. We have been talking a lot about going to the dentist, and I even managed to find a book that Olivia loves...she is very excited about going to the dentist because Ive explained to her that the dentist will make her teeth feel better.
A little history, Olivia was born with little to no enamel on her teeth, she started teething very early(2-3months) and by 4months she had 4teeth *nearly* 6teeth actually. Almost as soon as they came in they started to deteriorate, first yellow spots by the gum line and then they began to break away. By one year they looked horrible, and FTR at 1year she had never had any type of gum/candy/soda/juice was still 95% breastfed. I did start to feel guilty and wonder if nursing was causing this. I joined a yahoo group for other breastfed children with dental issues and quickly learned that in children with this condition weaning actually increases the rate of decay because something in the breastmilk actually protects their teeth and slows the process of decay. The day after her first birthday she had her first dentist appointment. The dentist was very nice, he Dx'd her and said that no breastfeeding wasnt the cause. He said not to worry about candy/sugar/soda that those actually werent the foods that do so much damage to kids teeth, but that I should avoid foods such as bread/bagels or anything that was likely to stick to her teeth. Im not perfect but Ive done the best I could. Im sure the sips of soda she gets off my cup aren't helping, I just feel so guilty. I know how bad they were when she was still exclusively breastfed, so that does help me to see that I cant really blame myself. I am just so scared to go to this new dentist tomorrow, I have no idea what she is going to say...If shes going to blame me like the last dentist. I wish the first dentist I took her too could be the one that treats her but he isn't set up to do her dental surgery so he said he cant help. Please let tomorrow go well, please.
