Amazing!

She was absolutely positively AMAZING! I woke her up this morning and she was whining and tossing and turning and I said: Olivia today we are going to the DENTIST(I've been talking it up and reading about dentists for weeks now) she sat up as fast as she could and said: Yes! Mommy Dentist! So we got dressed and rushed out the door, I got lost so bad its embarrassing but we eventually made it. As soon as we walked in she said: Hi Dentist(to the receptionist) and opened wide, LOL. Once we got back in the room the BEST nurse EVER(I think she was a nurse?) came and talked to Olivia, they played, they sang, they made silly faces. Olivia got Xrays done *gasp* (falling out of my chair STILL) She was SO brave I was actually fighting back tears, I was so proud of her. The dentist finally came in and was just as amazing, she took plenty of time to play with Olivia, let her pick out some stickers and sunglasses and she even got an orange stuffed(nemo-ish looking)fish(her favorite color). She let the Dentist look into her mouth poke around all her teeth. She did so fantastic, I was just and still am just so blown away! They gave us an appt of May11 for the surgery but we are camping that following weekend so I just changed it to June 23. I wish it could be sooner, but I feel better atleast knowing we have a plan! The Dentist was awesome about extended nursing, she said it doesn't matter WHAT she puts in her mouth, breastmilk, juice whatever that because the problems are already there and her enamel is so weak (and even none at all in some places!) that what's important is that we wipe her mouth out after every drink/nursing/etc. And to continue to brush twice per day with our fluoride tooth paste.(but only fluoride because Olivia is such a great spitter, lol) Now the scary part. Her surgery will take around 2-2.5 HOURS she will be under general, the good part she will fall asleep in my arms and they wont wake her up until she is back in my arms. Our insurance will only pay 1000$ per year and we've already used 200$ of that. Her surgery will cost around 3K so insurance will only pay for 800$ of that. yikes. So we have to pay 800$ upfront 7days before the surgery and the remaining 1400$ on the day of the surgery. She will be getting two silver crowns(in the back), 3(?)Natural colored fillings and 4caps. The caps will be a natural tooth color on the front and silver on the back because she needs the added strength. They showed me some pictures and really they look pretty good. Still breaks my damn heart though.

Oh the poor sweetie!!!! I'm so sorry that Olivia has to go through all of this. Will she have this condition too in her permanent teeth when they come in?

Oh I want to hug that poor baby who's going to have to go through all this. And hugs to you too!!!

hi renee,
bella has hypoplasia of the enamel too and had to have surgery about Olivias age for a big abscess that formed in the front of her front tooth. She had alot of fillings in her baby teeth too. As her second teeth have come in they have been sealed and it has made a huge difference. In fact she now has no fillings, the baby teeth wih lots have fallen out and the sealant has worked really well for her second teeth.
Hope olivia and the mammas do ok wih the surgery

Thanks both of you. YES! Gabrielle that is exactly what the Dentist called it (hypoplasia of the enamel) She said she's seen this many time in premature babies and the was her first impression(until I explained Olivia wasnt premature, to which she then said it was genetic) Thanks again both of you. Oh and Laura, like Gabrielle's Bella, hopefully Olivia's permanent teeth wont be affected. If needed we will get them sealed as they come in.

yaaaaaaaaay! Olivia Grace, auntie Rae is so proud of you! You did good baby girl!

Rae Rae is proud of mommy too.

I'm so glad you found a supportive dentist. Told you I had a good feeling about this.

I will be there the day she has surgery if you need me. I just turned in the time off sheet asking for the day off!

Good comments. But, I do not agree with most of them. People sure have a lot of time on their hands.
