I want to get earrings. 6+months ago Olivia mentioned wanting to get her ears pierced. I did not chose to pierce her ears at a younger age, because well I didnt feel I had any right to do so. I always imagined Id wait until she was old enough to decide she wanted to and then she could. I dont think I ever expected this to happen at age 3. I always imagined a tweeny age, 11,12,even 13ish. I could even imagine this happening somewhere around age 5 or 6. But 3? I decided I would honor her request telling her shed need to wait till her 3rd birthday(and that I wouldnt bring it up or offer it atall, assuming she'd forget about it) Well she didnt! Infact shes talked about it nonstop ever since and told everyone who will listen that for her 3rd birthday she was getting her ears pierced. I explained to her that it very well might hurt, and that she'd have to sit very still. Well her birthday is this friday, and today was Shanas last day off work before then so we decided to just go ahead and go today. Ofcourse Maggie was there to cheer her on, and Raechelle took pictures. Olivia climbed up into the chair and I offered her the chance to change her mind atleast 10times. She was so serious and sure of what she wanted.
She held perfectly still and didnt even flinch when the woman pierced each ear. When she was done she sat so tall with such a serious look on her face, she admired each earring(her birthstone) in the mirror before climbing down and informing the woman at the register that she chose diamonds because diamonds were a girls best friend, the woman laughed and Olivia had no idea why that was funny.
Im still very torn, I have no idea how I feel about it. Its her body and she's pleased.

When I turn 3...

happy birthday to olivia...wow 3 already. Harriet got her ears pierced when she was almost two and it was pretty much her choice. It was important to her grandmother as 'all little indian girls have their ears pierced, and I gave her the choice and lots of time to choose. She was totally into it and still loves that she has them pierced. From what you write about olivia it seems she is a girl who knows what she wants.

I brought up piercing Nat's ears once (I wouldn't do it for the same reason you didn't) because I thought it would be really cute on her and Cole about had a fit. Like I said, I'd never do it until she asked, but I was just sayin'...
