Update on weaning

Image hosted by Photobucket.com Im finding this process to be very bitter sweet! Today We nursed at 8am and it is now 11:15pm and she's fallen asleep without nursing. Our current daily goal is to nurse upon waking, before a nap, and for 5minutes before going off to bed with Mama. The past few days Ive worked to try and skip the nap time nursing session and found a reason to go out shopping so she would fall asleep in the car or stroller. Im finding that the less I nurse the harder it is for me to nurse her the next time. I feel so much like a mommy dog who gets up and shakes the puppies off! I just feel so DONE! Even 6months ago Id never dream Id feel this way, but Im noticing that really Olivia is doing SO MUCH BETTER! Shes eating great, just as sweet and affectionate as always. Her tantrums have reduced by atleast 50%. She is falling asleep easily each night with Shana and just last week spent the entire day with Raechelle who managed to get her down for a nap and to bed with no problem's what-so-ever. As I type this though I feel a bit of tears welling up in my eyes. I never ever dreamed I would wean my child. Ive been so passionate about child-led weaning for so long. Im not sure when things changed, but they did and I had to listen to my body. I know in my heart I am doing the right thing. My goal is to have her weaned by her 3rd birthday. Im not sure we will meet it(she is EXTREMELY attached to nursing all-night-long, and first thing upon waking)But atleast being daytime weaned is helping both her and I SO MUCH!

I think it's amazing you held on this long. Don't feel bad at all about weaning her! She seems to be doing great and I know how stressful it became for all of you. Glad that she is becoming more able to soothe herself and get to sleep without nursing. You know if she truly still needed it she would have put up more of a fight about it, and I am sure you would still give it to her.
I think you are doing child led weaning in a way. You recognized her behavior changing and that she was seeming more out of control without it, and you took steps to change it. She seems happier and more 'in control' of herself now, and you definitely seem happier. I think both of you weaned each other at just the right time.
