Knitting!
After over a year of drooling over Cates Blog Im trying on a new hobby for size! Not going quite aswell as Id hoped it would. Today I was at Target and found a $1 bin that had some cute(enough) yarn and a knitting pattern. I thought heck for a $1 even if its an ugly scarf, atleast I can get my feet wet with minimal expense. SO I spent 4hrs casting on 15, knitting 4 rows, purling 3stiches and then ripping it all out and starting over. My mom took pitty on me and my $1 funky(and nearly impossible to knit with when you have no idea what in the $%#^$# you are doing) yarn, and set me up with with some basic cotton yarn. That went much better(if you forget about the stitches dropped). My mom taught me how to do some alternative to purling(hell I forget the lingo she used) and that went much better. So hopefully I can get the hagn of it on this other yarn and go back to my funky yarn.
Shana let me in on a little secret, Im getting a new sewing machine for Christmas! I am SEW(yes Im a dork) excited! We just got a new serger last year(however as of yet haven't taken the class so its pretty much useless) but I figure between the serger and a new machine the (extra) guestbed can take up space in the garage and we can set up a real sewing craft room! I found the most adorable fabrics for Thanksgiving and Christmas and I cant wait to make Maggie and Olivia dresses!
I have a few other projects I really need to wrap up before I get going on too many new ones, and then its on to making Christmas gifts. This year I am making Olivia some hand puppets, marionettes(and a marionette stand) giving her that balance beam I made, some homemade playdoh, a quilted barn and farm animals, some new dresses and pajamas, and Id like to ask Santa to buy her a very basic digital camera.
We will be celebrating Kwanza this year so Im thinking she will one of these homemade gifts each day and then save the PJs/Dresses/Camera for xmas day.
